A drive to Lumut in Perak from Klang Valley will take you about 2 1/2 hours. Those plying this route would usually exit the Bidor intersection of the North-South highway.The journey from Kuala Lumpur to Bidor is quite a breeze. The fun begins when you enter the junction that also leads towards Teluk Intan which is about 64km away from this town.
To get to Lumut, take a left exit about a kilometre north of Bidor to access Kampung Koh and Sitiawan. Traffic is usually heavy here; be wary of heavy vehicles hogging the road and overtaking on your right.
As you approach Teluk Intan, there is a shortcut that bypasses the town take this exit on the left and it will lead you to the Sungai Perak bridge of Hilir Kinta. This majestic structure stretches over three kilometres. From here onwards, the view is spectacular. You will notice paddy fields on both sides, along Sungai Dedap to Kampung Koh.
The distance from Teluk Intan to Sitiawan is roughly about 65km. Lumut is located about 12km away from here. If you expect Sitiawan to be in the boondocks, here’s a something you should know: there is a three-lane expressway from this town to Lumut. The drive is exceptionally smooth because the roads well paved, wide and straight.
Other that the north south highway, visitors also can take the old root from Sg.Buluh to Tanjung karang right up to Sungai Besar then proceed to Teluk Intan, Sitiawan, Manjung and hading straight to Lumut.
The road condition is quite good but the traffic is kind of heavy due to the heavy vehicle hogging the road.
The journey from Sungai Buluh to Lumut will take you roughly 3 hours. Once you reach Lumut, you can choose to enter the Tentera Laut Diraja Malaysia (Navy) base camp thru two main entrances i.e. Lumut and Teluk Batik
Please be advice, visitors need to leave their Identity Card or Driving License at the guard post to obtain the visitor’s pass.
Visitors then can proceed to the Mutiara Armada Complex at Jalan Nakhoda, Pengkalan TLDM Lumut. To get there, visitors, have to take a left turn at the first traffic light and go straight until you reach a second traffic light. Here, take another left turn and you will see the Mutiara Armada Complex on your right hand side.
