The United States Bowling Congress Specifications and Certifications team is working with Professional Bowlers Association lane maintenance representatives and some of its top players to modify lane oil patterns for the upcoming Denny's PBA Tour season. This week in Milwaukee several top professionals, including Walter Ray Williams Jr., tested the patterns.

Concerned that the five patterns used for its regular events and the Tour Trials played too much alike last season, the PBA and USBC joined forces to begin the process of adjusting the patterns so that the unique characteristics are evident during competition.

The United States Bowling Congress is refocusing its efforts on research and testing relating to the System of Bowling in the interest of seeking practical solutions to the sport's credibility issues.

USBC's major concern is the degree of influence technology is having over player skill as the primary factor for success in bowling today. The equipment and playing fields in bowling have evolved as technology has improved. One result has been an explosive increase in scoring in recent years.

Shalin Zulkifli of Malaysia and Sweden's Anders Öhman are the two new inductees to the 2004 WBW International Bowling Hall of Fame.
